gouache and ink resist

I have been wanting to try this technique since I read about it on an artist's website. It's great fun, partly because it's a little unpredictable.  I used heavy weight watercolor paper

Essex field

10x10 oil on linen.  A scene from Cox Reservation in Essex, MA.  Painted for the "Open Spaces" exhibit at EvenTide.

8x8 oil on panel.  This painting shows my niece Emma at Singing Beach.

Gloucester Marine Railways

This scene is from the boatyard in Rocky Neck, Gloucester.  It's the oldest working boatyard in America.  This is my favorite hangout, and where the three vessels now at the Boston Tea Party Museum were built or restored.  I loved watching the process.  At the right is the scaffolding for The Beaver.
